How Nutrition Helps In Addiction Recovery

Get enough sleep, exercise, eat well. That is all very important. But what I wanted to focus on today, is the nutrition piece. This isn’t just about eating well, as we all should. But really understanding that the neurotransmitters in the brain are synthensized by nutrition. When you quit an addictive begavior, you don’t feel well, you are agitated, your mood is low and it seems that cravings run wild. The reason is that neurotransmitters are off. Feeling these things, are a manifestation that they are off. So I am not giving you advice of eating lettuce more lettuce in your diet. What I am talking about is specific key nutrients that restore dopamine levels and other neurotransmitters in the brain. There is research to show that addicted individuals, especially those to substances, once they quit, have diminished and malfunctioning neurotransmitters in the brain. Neurotransmitters are chemical messengers, they affect us in how we feel, act and behave. So, this is why not just for nutritious foods, but key nutrients is very important for someone who struggles with addiction, because once you quit, depressed mood agitation, lethargy starts to set in.
