10 Protein-Rich Foods for Vegetarians to Include in Their Diets

By Terence Lewis      Expert Author Terence Lewis

If you're a vegetarian looking for suggestions on how to include proteins in your diet, you must often meet disbelieving stares and standard replies such as, "Why don't you just start having eggs"? A bunch of vegetarian foods come in with high quantities of protein to help you lead a healthy lifestyle without having to look over the egg counter for assistance.
Here are 10 protein-rich foods for you that can help in building muscle strength, promoting satiety and enabling weight loss
  1. Seitan
Made from gluten, Seitan is a well-known protein source for vegetarians and vegans alike. It is also known as wheat meat or wheat gluten as it matches the texture and consistency of meat when cooked. Every 100 gms serving of Seitan contains 25 gms of protein. It also contains selenium and small quantities of iron, calcium, and phosphorus as well. You can pan-fry, sauté, or grill it to incorporate it in a recipe of your choice. However, if you are sensitive to gluten, or are suffering from celiac disease, you should avoid Seitan.
  1. Greek Yoghurt
Greek yoghurt is differentiated from regular yoghurt by a straining process which removes whey - a liquid containing lactose that's a natural sugar found in milk. This means Greek yoghurt has a lower sugar concentration than regular yoghurt. It contains calcium, protein, probiotics, iodine, and vitamin B-12. A cup of Greek yoghurt has 23 gms of protein. Thanks to a high content of protein, it can help in improving bone health, reducing appetite and hunger, boosting metabolism, improving gut health among other benefits.
  1. Tofu
If you are opting for a vegetarian diet to fulfill your body's protein requirements, soy products can be your best bet. Tofu's origins can be traced back to China. It's made from condensation of soy milk, that is then pressed into solid white blocks. Tofu is a protein-rich food and also contains all essential amino acids, important for your body. A 100-gram serving of tofu contains 8 gms of protein. Along with being rich in proteins and a number of healthy nutrients, tofu can also shield you against several health conditions, such as heart problems, diabetes and even certain types of cancers.
  1. Tempeh
A traditional Indonesian food, Tempeh is made from fermented soybeans. With a pretty impressive nutrient portfolio, it is a popular replacement of meat for vegetarians. In a study conducted in 2014, 20 obese men were administered a high-protein diet that included either soy-based or meat-based protein. After 14 days, it was observed that both the diets led to weight loss, a reduction in appetite, and increase in fullness with no significant difference between the two protein sources. An 84-gram serving of tempeh comes with 15 gms of protein. A cup of tempeh contains close to 2/3rd of the calcium found in a cup of whole milk. Since it undergoes fermentation, the phytic acid found in soybeans is broken down, facilitating absorption and digestion.
  1. Lentils
A protein powerhouse, lentils grow in pods and are available in red, green, black, and brown varieties. 100 gms of cooked lentils contain 9.02 gm of protein. Consuming it can lower risk of obesity, heart diseases, diabetes, and promote a healthy complexion and hair, reduced weight, and increased energy. An economical source of protein, lentils can also make up for folate and manganese in your daily nutritional requirements. With a slew of recipes that can be used to prepare lentils, they are undoubtedly the most versatile protein-rich vegetarian food that can help you check off your daily health bucket list.
  1. Edamame
Edamame are immature soybeans, also referred to as vegetable soybeans. They are green in color and can be added to soups, salads, stews or can be simply consumed as a snack. A cup or approximately 155 gms of edamame comes with 18.5 gms of protein. In addition to being a rich protein source, it can also be instrumental in lowering cholesterol levels, hence lowering the risks of heart disease and improving the blood lipid profile. With a low carbohydrate and glycemic index count, it is a perfect snack for those trying to control their blood sugar levels as well.
  1. Chickpeas
Originated from the Mediterranean and the Middle East, Chickpeas, is also known as garbanzo beans. A cooked cup of chickpeas come in with 15 gms of protein. They are also great sources of carbohydrates, iron, fibers, folate, potassium, manganese, phosphorus, and a host of other beneficial nutrients. It has also been shown in several studies that a diet rich in chickpeas can help in lowering cholesterol levels, control blood sugar and can even help in reducing belly fat. Selenium, a mineral found in chickpeas, helps the enzymes of your liver to function properly and can also detoxify some cancer-causing compounds in your body.
  1. Chia Seeds
1 tablespoon of chia seeds contain 3 gms of protein. Chia seeds are tiny black seeds and come from the plant Salvia hispanica. Their rich protein content is complimented by an impressive nutrient presence. They include high counts of fiber, calcium, omega-3 fatty acids and several other micronutrients. All the carbohydrates that chia seeds contain are fiber, which the human body does not digest. Fiber does not increase blood sugar and does not need insulin to be disposed of. Chia seeds are 40% fiber, making them one of the best fiber sources in the world.
  1. Peanuts
Protein-rich, full of healthy fats, and known to improve heart health, peanuts can be an easy way to build up proteins in your body. Half a cup of peanuts come in with around 20.5 gms of protein. They are a low-carbohydrate food, thus making them perfectly healthy for diabetics. An excellent source of proteins and minerals like biotin, copper, niacin, manganese, phosphorus, vitamin E, and magnesium, peanuts can be easily incorporated in your daily diet as a snack or as part of a routine meal.
  1. Nutritional Yeast
Nutritional yeast is commercially sold as yellow powder of flakes. Its cheesy flavor can nicely be fitted into mashed potatoes or scrambled tofu. It can also be sprinkled over pasta or can be enjoyed as a savory dressing on popcorn. A 28 gram serving of nutritional yeast contains 14 gms of protein and 7 grams of fiber. Several studies have shown that S. cerevisiae, the yeast found in nutritional yeast can help in building immunity and can also reduce inflammation that occurs as a result of bacterial infection. It can be a great food to help you combat brittle nails or hair loss, thanks to a high concentration of protein.

Nutritional Supplements: Do You Know What You're Doing?

By Nicole Dennison      Expert Author Nicole Dennison

When we talk about nutritional supplements, what are we talking about?
According to the FDA: Nutritional supplements, also called dietary supplements, are products you ingest that contain a dietary ingredient intended to add further nutritional value to (supplement) the diet.
The most popular are multivitamins, calcium, and vitamins B, C and D. They can also be an amino acid, a mineral, an herbal or other botanical. They come in tablets, capsules, liquids, or powders.
According to the National Institute of Health News in Health: "More than half of all Americans take one or more dietary supplements daily."
What that means is that there are a lot of people taking supplements not knowing what they're doing.
Is that you?
What's at Stake?
As busy professional women, we're used to working long days, skipping meals, and picking up 'take out' on the way home for dinner. It seems easier to just reach for a supplement to fill in the nutritional 'gap' rather than slow down and eat healthfully.
As Americans, it seems we're always in a hurry. We eat fast, drive fast, multi-task, and hurry to the doctor's office for a pill to get better quickly.
I wonder... Are we also popping supplements, willy-nilly, without thought?
When it comes to nutritional supplements, do you know what you're doing? Are you qualified to decide for yourself what supplements to take?
When it comes to choosing nutritional supplements, besides a daily multi-vitamin, most of us don't have a clue.
Here's the problem: When you reach for that bottle of vitamin C or pop a fish oil pill, do you know if you're taking the right amount for your body? Do you know if your supplements are safe to take with prescription medications?
Take an Active Role in Your Health with the Right Mix of Supplements.
As busy professional women, you already take an active role in your business. You make informed decisions and don't do anything willy-nilly.
It should be the same with your health.
Choosing the right mix of supplements is important for anyone interested in taking an active role in their health.
While most supplements don't have side effects, they still impact our body.
For instance, vitamin C when taken in the right dosage helps build the immune system. Adversely, in higher doses, it's a laxative. The amino acid L-Theanine can help to lower cortisol levels and aid in relaxation. If you're currently taking a prescription to lower blood pressure, you wouldn't add L-Theanine as a supplement.
Three Avenues to Pursue When Seeking Nutritional Supplements
What a busy professional woman to do?
Nutritional supplements can be a powerful ally for busy professional women interested in achieving optimal health. And while it is possible to get all the nutrients you need by eating a variety of healthy foods, it's difficult to do so.
If you do decide to take supplements, here are three avenues to pursue:
1. Consult with a doctor - just not any doctor.
For optimal holistic health, seek advice from a degreed medical professional. One that is trained to focus on whole-body health. Doctors of Oriental Medicine, Naturopaths, Alternative or Integrative Medical Doctors, for instance, can advise you on nutritional supplements.
N.B. Traditional, western medicine doctors are neither trained nor able to be licensed to discuss nutritional supplements with clients!
2. Partner with a Holistic Health Consultant.
A lower cost alternative to seeking advice from a holistic medical doctor is to consult with a certified holistic health consultant. Many are educated and trained in how to help you wisely choose supplements best for your health goals.
Be cautious of 'health coaches.' Not all health coaches are certified. Be particularly wary of anyone who wants to sell you their health product.
3. Do your research on Google.
Although this is the lowest cost alternative, it takes the most amount of time. To become knowledgeable about nutritional supplements you'll need to do one heck of a lot of research, slog through endless websites touting elixirs to optimal health, and sort through a dizzying amount of contradictory information. Word to the wise: If you go this route, read carefully.
Nutritional supplements can be a powerful ally for busy professional women interested in achieving optimal health. However, before you go off, willy-nilly, choosing whatever nutritional supplement you think would do you good, make sure you know what you're doing. Pursue these three avenues when deciding on what nutritional supplements to take. Your body will thank you.

Learn The Truth About Low Carb Diets in the Next 60 Seconds

By Lakeisha Clayton     Expert Author Lakeisha Clayton

Before you choose any diet, you have to research to ensure that it is safe and that is has rules that you can abide by long-term.
Then you might want to ask:
There are dozens of diets on the market. Why should I choose a diet that is low in carbohydrates?
The diet market is indeed huge, but there actually are only three general diet groups:
1. Diets limiting calories
2. Diets limiting fat
3. Diets limiting carbohydrates
1. Diets that limit low-fat can be good for a long-term regimen for athletes, those with only a few extra pounds to lose, or those who need only to maintain their healthy weight. This type of diet can also be used to improve blood cholesterol and decrease the risk of cardiovascular diseases, but recent clinical data questioned this approach.
2. Low-calorie diets require self-discipline, support and guidance. Possibly the best known is the Weight Watchers weight-loss program, which has attracted millions of dieters over decades. An interesting note: Before the low-fat boom, Weight Watchers offered carb-limiting and not fat-limiting programs.
3. Lastly low carb diets are used to curb your appetite which makes it easier to adhere to over time. The diets opponents often stress that the foods that you are required to eat are not considered balanced. Dieters are usually advised to take supplements to ensure an adequate nutrient intake.
Growing in popularity is the especially strict Ketogenic diet, which not only requires limiting carbs, but also protein and even water.
Ketogenic Diets
Is a diet that, when followed conscientiously, produces a by-product called ketones. Most dieters can reach ketosis (a condition associated with increased amounts of ketones in the blood) by limiting their carb intake to less than 60 grams a day.
The state of ketosis is what makes a ketogenic diet metabolically so similar to fasting that it is often being referred to as a controlled fast.
This diet is a mathematically calculated diet that is high in fat and low not only in carbohydrates but also in protein. It also limits water intake to avoid ketones' dilution and carefully controls calorie intake. The diet has been in existence since the 1920s, when it was considered to be a breakthrough in the treatment of childhood epilepsy, but was usurped by synthetic medications in the 1950s. Now it is used in neurological treatments.
The clinics that prescribed the Ketogenic Diet followed their patients' progress for decades, collecting and documenting many cases. None reported any serious side effects and none concluded the diet to be unsafe.
Does a Low Carb Diet Work?
Many people are successful for the simple reason that they are easier to stick to than conventional diets. You do not get the hunger cravings that you get when on a diet that limits fats and calories.
The first thing that the body burns off as a source of energy is carbohydrates. However, if the body has no carbohydrates to burn, it looks for another energy source - fat. Therefore, by reducing your carbohydrate intake your body naturally burns fat and you lose weight. Remember, anyone beginning a new weight loss program, or dramatic change in their diet or health routine should consult their physician beforehand.
An increasing body of clinical evidence supports what you should consider a basic principle of fat reduction: if you're in relatively good shape and you're looking to get leaner, then the #1 dietary change you should make is to drop your carbohydrate intake and up your protein immediately.
For some reason, people still don't want to understand and accept that dietary fat is NOT the issue for most people who are active. It's the intake of excess carbohydrates that is largely responsible for adding adipose tissue to your body. Cut the carbs significantly and you'll drop the fat.
Here's the evidence. In a recent study, two groups were monitored. Both groups consumed 30% of their daily calorie intake in fats. The only significant dietary difference was that one group consumed only 12% of their calories from protein (58% carbohydrates), while the other group consumed 25% protein (45% carbohydrates). Even with consistent fat intake and a relatively minor reduction in carbs (from 58% to 45%), the results were clear. After six months, the higher protein, lower carb group lost a full 50% more fat than the higher carb group.
I would expect results to be even more dramatic if the carbohydrate intake was dropped down closer to 40%, as in the popular 40-30-30 fat loss programs.
It's important to realize that we're not suggesting cutting out carbohydrates altogether-this is ultimately counter-productive-but rather a gradual reduction in carbs to balance out the diet. There's no doubt that most people, and Americans in particular, over-eat carbohydrates.
Body cleanse and Detox Tea is extremely popular. Visit my blog for more information at [https://blog.slimladytea.com]

One of the biggest challenges you face during your weight loss program is to stay motivated. It happens because you do not want to change your habits, or simply put, you don't want to use your mind power to achieve your goal. Using the power of mind can be the real game changer in your mission to fat loss or full fitness. It is not as difficult as it seems to be, if you know how to trick your brain into believing that good habits are the key to success in fighting obesity. That is what Noom diet does.
Cliched tricks that work- Simple things are not easy
You must have heart or read that in order to achieve any big goal, you must set smaller goals first. Once you start achieving small goals, you set the pace for higher goals and eventually achieve the final goal. This age-old wisdom still holds true no matter what your goal is. As far as weight loss is concerned, setting goals is even simpler than choosing small steps for other goals such as financial, career related or any other specific goal. However, simple things are often not easy. For example, waking up early is simple, but not easy. Quitting smoking is simple, but is it really easy? No.
Quitting bad habits is simple but not easy- Don't be a slave to your habits
It goes without saying that you often follow your habitual eating habits, sleeping patterns and general lifestyle. That is what makes achieving your weight loss goal difficult. You are unknowingly a slave to your habits or bad habits to be precise. Those who can break their bad habits and pick up healthy habits fast, are the ones who achieve their goals easily and fast. When it comes to changing habits, your mind power plays a great role and boosting your mind power becomes the real challenge. That is when you need something or someone to keep you motivated.
Changing habits with technology
The moment we talk about technology, we often think of computers, mobile phones and apps, don't we? Yes that is true. So, why not use technology to break free from bad eating habits that make you obese, fat and full of health issues? There are various health apps that offer you assistance and support for fitness. Some of these apps also offer personal coach so that you can get customised diet plans and exercise programs to suit your exact needs, body type and overall lifestyle.
Are app based weight loss programs effective?
Does whatsapp or uber app work? Yes, they work because you use them the way they are supposed to be used. You can still use traditional methods to send messages or book a cab over the phone, but you use the app for these purposes. The same is true for health apps and programs. However, you must choose a program that is backed by a qualified human team to offer you persoanlised support. One such program is Noom.

CoQ10 - Brain Health and Stroke Prevention Latest Studies Show

By Bruce Brightman     Expert Author Bruce Brightman

Brain: The brain requires a large supply of energy due to it being one of the most metabolically active organs in the body. This is needed for the brain to function optimally.
CoQ10 has been found to benefit the nervous system and protection from several types of diseases.
CoQ10 appears to alleviate oxidative stress, inflammation, and impaired mitochondrial functions when one has a head injury. The brain suffers from ongoing damage even after the initial trauma.
A study with rats with head injuries, CoQ10 protected mitochondria from damage and reduced cell death in the brain. These results show CoQ10 as a promising management strategy for head trauma in humans as well.
There are numerous nutritional supplements that can lend their expertise to support healthy brain function. Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) is a naturally occurring vitamin-like substance found in every cell of the body, but whose levels naturally decrease as we age. CoQ10 is responsible for promoting heart health, increasing energy levels, and aiding the immune system as well as helping to keep blood pressure levels in normal range. CoQ10 comes in various forms, mostly related to absorption levels.
Strokes: Further studies showed that CoQ10 could perhaps lower the risk of a stroke. The patients studied that had had a stroke had significantly lower blood levels of CoQ10.
Heart Health: One recent study shows that 120 mg daily of CoQ10 alone (no statin drugs used) decreased blood pressure, triglycerides and LDL cholesterol.
Studies also show that patients with heart disease and heart failure histories that CoQ10 will protect their conditions. It is known to reduce incidents of serious cardiac events.
Statin drugs are believed to diminish CoQ10 levels in the body. That is why many doctors recommend that their patients increase their intake of CoQ10 if they are taking statins. CoQ10 also helps reduce the severity and occurrence of some of the side effects (most commonly muscle pain) of statin drugs.
By combining 200 mg of CoQ10 and 200 mcg of Selenium daily individuals showed a 41% reduction in cardiovascular-related mortality 12 years later.
CoQ10 is an ideal nutrient for all of us. It affects our energy and longevity, heart health, blood pressure, brain, gums, stomach, immune system, and much more. It is an enzyme found in almost all cells in the body, where it helps with the production of energy within the mitochondria. There is evidence that it can increase the volume of oxygen in the blood by as much as 15%.
Our cells require CoQ10 to function properly and without it, the cells perish. It is a strong anti-oxidant in both mitochondria and lipid membranes. CoQ10 is located exactly where the free-radicals are generated (in the mitochondria) during the oxidation of nutrients and the production of ATP, making it an important factor in slowing the aging process.
CoQ10 was discovered in 1957 at the University of Wisconsin-Madison Enzyme Institute by Fred L. Crane and colleagues. Since 1960, universities and researchers have published over 1,600 articles in medical journals demonstrating CoQ10's benefits and importance. In 1978, Peter D. Mitchell won the Nobel Prize for Chemistry for his discovery of the significance of CoQ10 in energy production.

The Nutrition Guide: Boosting Recovery with a Healthy Diet

Author: Chris Elkins, MA | Last Updated: 5/31/18

Most people don’t think about diet when they enter treatment for addiction. They think of withdrawal. They think of counseling sessions or group therapy. People in recovery talk about following the 12 Steps, finding purpose in life or developing a relationship with a higher power.
Eating a healthy, well-balanced diet is rarely mentioned.
Kurry Friedell
Kurry Friedell, Director of Nutritional Services, Advanced Recovery Systems

“I don’t think anybody can be active in recovery if they aren’t nourished,” Advanced Recovery Systems dietitian Kurry Friedell told DrugRehab.com. “Eating properly, getting consistent sleep and being active boost the ‘good feeling’ hormones in your body that lead to a successful recovery.”

Fish oil: friend or foe?

POSTED JULY 12, 2013, 12:50 PM , UPDATED JULY 24, 2019, 10:32 AM
Howard LeWine, M.D.
Howard LeWine, M.D.

The answer is more friend than foe, if the fish oil comes from food sources rather than supplements.

Omega-3s in balance

What’s so special about fish oil? It’s loaded with omega-3 fatty acids. These must come from food, since our bodies can’t make them.
The two key omega-3 fatty acids are docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA). Fatty fish like salmon, mackerel, and sardines are rich in these omega-3s. Some plants are rich in another type of omega-3 fatty acid, alpha-linolenic acid, which the body can convert to DHA and EPA. Good sources of these are flaxseeds, chia seeds, walnuts, pumpkin seeds, and canola oil.

Change Your Diet To Change Your Life

By Carmen Gilfillan      Expert Author Carmen Gilfillan

Balancing your diet and your busy professional life can be a difficult task. Considering how you're spending most of your time at work, you have little time for your nutrition and diet. But good health is necessary to live; how can you then make time to pay attention on your diet?
Actually you don't need to, not much anyway as there are a few ways that you can modify your diet. These are very small and it takes almost no time to make these changes. Here are three small but very useful dietary modifications you can make:
Avoid Cooked Breakfasts
First thing in the morning the body is still in cleanse mode. As such it is important to avoid heavy, cooked breakfasts first thing as this is going against what your body naturally wants to do. Eat light breakfasts such as fruit first thing in the morning, which lines your stomach and may result in you eating less.
Alternatively, try eating something like porridge with flaxseeds or pumpkin seeds. Both of these seeds are a good source of omega-3 (another source of which is fish) which is good for the joints and can help prevent depression, and brain conditions such as Alzheimer's and Dementia. So avoid cooked breakfasts in the mornings and opt for something that's easier on your digestive system.
Reduce your portion sizes
You tend to lose track of what you eat and how much you eat when your mind is preoccupied. You're worried about deadlines, presentations and meetings at work, so you don't pay attention to how much you're eating. You can, however, easily rectify this by simply reducing your portions sizes. Reducing your food intake means you don't overeat, and you'll be consuming only what your body really needs.
Overeating is one of the most common causes of obesity, acidity, high cholesterol and diabetes. By eating smaller portions you reduce the risk exponentially of ending up with one or more these conditions. In addition to reducing your portion sizes, try to eat more slowly so you can more easily recognize when you're full, as well savouring the flavour of your food.
Drink more water
While caffeine may be beneficial in the short term by keeping you awake and alert, the extra sugar dosage you get from it is not. Avoid coffee if you can as it is an artificial stimulant. If you absolutely need it, try to skip the sugar or reduce the amount. In addition, increase the amount of water you consume throughout the day by keeping a water bottle with you and taking periodic sips from it. The water will keep you hydrated and refreshed throughout the day and reduce the need for coffee and other stimulants.
These small but simple dietary modifications will allow you to live a much healthier and more nutritious lifestyle. Contrary to popular belief, the key to a healthy lifestyle does not require big changes. Small modifications, much like the ones discussed in this article, can make a huge difference to the quality of your health and life. The challenge is to stick with them, not give in to temptation and be consistent.

Is TRUVIA a Safe and Healthy Alternative to Sugar?

By Karen Bentley      Expert Author Karen Bentley

Truvia is a non-caloric sweetener. It's a "blend" type product made with three ingredients: 1) erythritol, which is a sugar alcohol, 2) stevia leaf extract, which is an herb, and 3) natural flavors, more on this in later on.
Truvia is marketed as a "natural" product, but this is deceiving because anything that's derived from a plant or animal source can be called natural. That means caloric sweeteners like sugar and HFCS are natural, too. What's confusing for most consumers is the fact that the term natural has absolutely nothing to do with processing. The product can be processed to death and still be natural.
Erythritol, for example, is a chemically extracted and fermented substance derived from corn. Since erythritol comes from corn it can legally be called natural, but it's still a highly processed substance. Erythritol is about 1/2 as sweet as table sugar and belongs to a class of substances known as sugar alcohols. Most, but not all, sugar alcohols are easily identified by the "ol" at the end of the name. Erythritol is the least objectionable of all the sugar alcohols because it causes the least digestive problems. Other sugar alcohols can make you cramp, fart and poop a lot. Erythritol is different because it's made through a fermentation process rather than a hydrogenation process, and the hydrogenation process seems to be the source of the digestive problems.
Stevia leaf extract is just.05% of one serving of Truvia. That's not much, but Cargill gets to make a pretty big deal out of the fact that it's using a natural herb in it's product. The stevia plant has naturally sweet leaves that taste a bit like licorice. In the olden days, 10 or so years ago, stevia was a highly regulated substance that was mistakenly feared to be carcinogenic. You could only get it in health food stores in the form of crushed leaves (that look a bit like oregano) or as a liquid. Once Cargill and the other big food manufacturers got into the act, stevia got mainstreamed into grocery store products as a healthier and more desirable alternative to sugar.
And lastly, the term "natural flavors" is a catch-all phrase where small quantities of any substance can be included in a product without being listed as an ingredient. A non-caloric sweetening agent called Neotame is a suspicious substance that's often included as a natural flavor. Neotame is a mega powerful artificial sweetener that's in the same family as aspartame, an excitotoxin. (FYI, Excitotoxins over stimulate and kill brain cells.) In fact, Neotame is so very potent that only the tiniest bit of it needs to be included to have a sweetening effect. This is important because stevia and erythritol aren't really all that sweet.
So is Truvia a safe and reasonable choice? Sure. It's not a toxic substance, but like any sweetening agent it might be a digestive irritant. This will be immediately obvious to you right after you use it. Pregnant women, infants and young children, and any one with neurological problems should avoid Truvia and any other alternative sweetening agent. For everyone else, the best advice is to limit the daily consumption of Truvia to 2 tablespoons per day. Got it? Just 2 tablespoons.

How Susceptible Are You to Sugar Addiction?

By Joan Kent      Expert Author Joan Kent

Quitting sugar was one of the most significant accomplishments of my life. I'm the World's Foremost Recovered Sugar Addict (!!).
While sugar is the most addictive food there is, it doesn't affect everyone that way. One of the key factors in sugar addiction is susceptibility.
I happen to be one of the susceptible people and have had strong reactions to sugar my whole life.
How Can You Tell If You're Susceptible to Sugar?
Well, it's often genetic.
Does either of your parents have hypertension? Diabetes? Obesity? Alcoholism?
How about depression? Or hypoglycemia (low blood glucose)?
Do you have an apple-shaped body type? (This really matters if you're a woman.)
Do you show any of these behaviors around sugar: compulsion to eat it, loss of control over how much you eat, unsuccessful efforts to quit, cravings?
Does sugar interfere with your health? Does it make you isolate yourself, miss important events, or use excessive exercise, self-induced vomiting, or laxatives to counter the effects of the sugar you ate?
If any of these sound familiar, you may be sugar-addicted. But what if you were to quit sugar? How might that change your life?
What Sugar Recovery Can Do for You
Sugar - actually, the high insulin it triggers - promotes inflammation & disease: diabetes, pre-diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, cholesterol, obesity, cancers and more. Quitting sugar can reverse many, if not most, of those. Really.
Sugar can cause mood swings, anxiety, depression, irritability. Quitting can help reverse mood issues and keep you feeling great.
Sugar messes with your energy. It can make you lethargic and sleepy all day. Quitting can restore your energy levels.
Sugar makes you eat more. Quitting sugar can help you regain control of your appetite.
Sugar makes you want junky food. It changes food preferences so you want sugary and/or high-fat foods. Quitting can make healthful food seem appetizing again.
What Else Can Recovery from Sugar Do?
If you've recently quit alcohol, sugar can make you crave alcohol and even lead to relapse. Quitting can help prevent that and keep you feeling much better during your (ongoing and hopefully permanent) recovery.
Quitting can make you a better role model for your kids.
• Showing them how you handled a big problem.
• Showing them that you do what you say.
• Reversing the health problems above so you'll be around for their key life events.
• Behaving differently so you treat them the way they deserve.
• Becoming more 'even' and less reactive so you handle other things better, as well.
In these ways and others, quitting sugar can be one of the best things you've ever done for your health, your attitude, your appetite, your behavior, your recovery, your kids.

Living Healthy Lives By Choice

By Adrian T Brown

How to live healthy and disease free for the rest of your life. Do you think that is pipe dream? If you think it is not possible, then you have already defeat your purpose. However, if you think it is possible, then I want to categorically tell you that it is can happen, and it is happening.
I am going to tell you and show you how to make it happen for you, as it is for me and many others.
Listen to me carefully, we are healthy by design and sick by default!
Living a healthy life is a matter of choice we make every day by the things we do, the food we eat and drink, and overall life we live. I am going to show you how to live a dynamic, vibrant healthy life. How to live your full life and never get sick, and how do do all this without drugs or surgery.
How to look like you have found the secret of the fountain of youth.
Let me ask you this all important question,
Why Are We Sick?
If we don't know the cause of something, it almost impossible to fix it. So, we have t0 first explore what is making us so sick, and I am sure some of the reasons that are making us sick might surprise you.
To put it at the very basic and say, there are only two reasons why a person become ill.
  1. You "catch" something, meaning, your body picks up a germ, generally a bacteria or a virus.
  2. Your body develop an illness or a disease. That will happen because something has gone wrong in your systems, causing some imbalance.
Something is not working as it should, and a disease or an illness develop. Examples are, cancer, heart disease, diabetes, acid reflux, arthritis, etc.
Remember that our focus is living healthy, so now, let's dig a little deeper in these two causes of all illnesses and diseases. And I'll start with the first cause of catching something.
We said before that is either a bacteria or a germ causing the problem. But look at this fact, the atmosphere is filled with these small and most times invisible creatures. Have you ever ask why some people in the same environment where others who pick up the germ and they are fine!
Don't tell me everyone is made up differently, and you will soon understand why this argument cannot stands the test of a day.
I said earlier that we are healthy by design, meaning, our bodies are designed to fight off those bacteria and germs that are bombarding us every day.
That inbuilt apparatus is called the Immune System which has two fundamental functions which are vital to the survival of the person.
  1. The Immune System is for identification of all types of micro-organisms and foreign bodies that are potentially dangerous to the individual.
  2. The Immune System is also for destruction of these micro-organisms, substances or foreign bodies.
Our Immune System can be weakened from a variety of ways, and these are some of the most common:
A. Under or malnourishment which is a lack of essential nutrients like vitamins and some trace elements.
B. Stress, can either be physical or psychological. Obesity can be a cause.
C. Chemotherapy which comes in the form of anti-cancer medication
D. Infectious diseases come from "catching" something
E. Dieting includes the foods that contribute in special ways to the correct functioning of the complex Immune
System
F. AIDS: Is the Immune System deficiency caused by a viral attacks on your body's defense mechanisms.
Let me remind you of the two reasons why people get sick:
  1. You catch something and your body cannot fight it off, as a result your body give in to the germs.
  2. Your body develops something in the genetically weak areas.
In both of the above cases the causes are the same.
A. Your Immune System is weak
B. Toxins are attacking your body

When we consider those two fundamental causes for illnesses, we can conclude that all sicknesses come from one or a combination of four things. This is what Kevin Trudeau in one of his books called: "Natural Cures They Don't Want You To Know About" said about why we get sick.
These are the four basic reasons Kevin give for all sicknesses:
  1. People get sick because they have too many toxins in their bodies
  2. We are suffering from nutritional deficiencies, meaning our cells are not getting enough nutrients in their proper proportions.
  3. We are exposed to and negatively affected by Electromagnetic Chaos (EMC).
  4. You have trapped mental and emotional stress
According to Kevin, these are the only four reasons why our Immune System could be weak or why genetically weak areas in the body can break down, and thus allowing illness and diseases to develop.
Although Kevin said these are the only reasons for all illnesses, I would like to add one more reason why we get sick.
Because I want to establish this fact, or I should say this TRUTH!!
We as living creatures called human beings are different from all other living things. Only human beings are created in the image and likeness of Elohim.
As a result, only human beings are created in His image and likeness, meaning, just like how Elohim exist in three formalities as Father, Son and Holy Ghost, we also exist in three dimensions as body soul and spirit.
To state it correctly, we are first and foremost spirit, with a soul in a body.
As a result of this enlightened truth, we can also get sick from a spiritual perspective. The medical experts call this psychosomatic illnesses
Psycho in psychosomatic comes from the root word psychic, and mean among other things, the supernatural or spiritual.
There are researches surrounding psychosomatic illnesses which seems to provide sufficient scientific evidence that the mind or the intangible part of a person, or a person's beliefs and thoughts, have the ability to cause physical changes in the body.
If we are going to be Living Healthy lives, holistic healthy lives, then all three areas on man's existence must be covered. Complete health is in spirit, soul and body.
Therefore I will say people are sick because of these five reasons
  1. We allow too many toxins in our bodies for too long
  2. We are not eating properly balanced meals resulting us suffering from nutritional deficiencies,
  3. We are exposed to and negatively affected by electromagnetic chaos (emc).
  4. We do not properly manage mental and emotional stress
  5. We ignore the Spirit-man that is more real than the physical man
There are things we can, and other things we cannot control. Therefore, the only way to manage those uncontrollable things, is to ensure the cells of our body are vibrantly healthy and strong to function as they should.
One such things we cannot control is electromagnetic fields to which we are all exposed.
What is electromagnetism?
Electromagnetism is a scientific word in physics used to describe one of the fundamental forces of nature. This force is between subatomic particles such as protons and electrons. You have to have a basic knowledge of physic to appreciate these terms.
Electromagnetism helps to hold matter together. It is also used to describe how a magnetic field is created by the flowing of electric current.
Our body has electromagnetic fields and communication systems. Electromagnetic chaos come about when wireless devices like the laptops, computers, televisions and cell phones are used too frequently. And even more dangerous when we sleep with them in the bedroom.
The resulting distortion creates chaos within the body's electromagnetic fields and communication systems. This causes physical, mental and emotional imbalances.
Electromagnetic chaos is a negatively powerful force and causes disease.
When we are able to reduce, eliminate, or neutralize these powerful negative frequencies, then we can reverse the negative reactions, resulting in the "curing" of symptoms and disease.
Living Healthy Through Balanced Diet
There are areas where we have complete control. For example, in the area of nutrition to prevent nutritional deficiencies.
People suffer unnecessarily because they do not eat the right way.
The proper way to ensure you are eating a balanced diet, is to include portions in your meals every day.
The portions should be considered in colors. So, in your daily eating, make sure you consume 50% green, 35% yellow, and 15% red. In so doing, you are covering all the basic nutritional needs of your cells.
Eating like this is the natural way to live healthy life and cancel the imposition of nutritional deficiency diseases.
In other words, we will not suffer from those noncommunicable diseases (NCD), that most people develop from improper or unhealthy eating habits.
For example, we will not suffer from the disease they call cancer. If we are to reveal the truth, cancer is not a disease, but rather a nutritional deficiency.
"According to Pharmaceutical Research, 95% of the causes of cancer are rooted in our lifestyle; our habits and rituals. The result of what we eat and don't eat. Only 5% of all cancers have a genetic link in their etiology, (causes of cancer)".
The naked truth is, there is no disease called cancer. Cancer is a tumor- like growth that occurs as a result of a nutritional deficiency of vitamin B17.
Most doctors won't tell you this, but take it from me, only your body can cure itself!
There are certain things you can do to help your body heal itself better, or cure itself of illness, sickness and diseases.
I stated earlier one of the fundamental reason you are sick is because of too much toxins in your body. What that comes down to are six areas that have direct relations to toxicity in your body.
These six areas are:
1. Exercise
2. Rest
3. What goes in your body
4. What comes out of your body
5. Your thoughts
6. Words you speak
Did you know that when you are toxic your body becomes highly acidic? Good health mean your body pH should be alkaline. When your body pH is acidic, you are vulnerable to illness and disease.
If your body pH remains alkaline, you virtually cannot get sick!
Every single individual who is diagnosed with cancer, has a pH that is too acidic.
One man said it all in this way - "If man made it, don't eat it." Put another way, eat only what comes from the plant, and not what come out of a plant.
There is so much that could be said here about genetical modification by man of virtually all fruits and vegetables to make them more disease resistant.
And even worse than that, how farmers have to produce more per acre in order to make more profit, by using chemical fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides. So when you eat a piece of that fruit or vegetable, it is loaded with toxic chemicals.
The bottom line is this, if you are going to be living healthy life and experience vibrancy and high energy, you must clean the accumulated toxins from your body.
Live Good Health By Eliminating Toxic Built-up
It is important to know that from a baby, you have been flooding your body with toxins.
These toxins and poisons included everything form vaccines, prescription and nonprescription drugs, from the air we breath, the water we drink, swim and shower in, and all the chemical from the food we eat.
You should learn about getting a full-body fat/lymphatic detox once per year. And in between that, do a complete colon cleanse, do a heavy metal cleans, do a liver/gallbladder cleanse, do a parasite cleanse, and a candida cleanse.
Other Measures to Good Health
You should drink eight full glasses of purified water every day. You need to drink more water, and the water must be pure. Water is necessary not only for flushing and nourishing your cells, but also for keeping them hydrated and pH balanced.
It is recommended that if you are going to be living healthy life, you should use a rebounder (mini trampoline) for at lease ten minutes a day.
By simply using this device on a daily basis, can provide more health benefits for your cells than almost any other form of exercise.
A rebounder stimulates every single cell in your body simultaneously.
It also stimulates the immune system and is amazingly effective in cleansing toxins out of the cells. The rebounder is said to be the most incredible exercise device made by man.
If you are going to be living a healthy life, you must stop putting toxins in your body!
If you stop doing the things that are causing your symptoms and disease, then you have in effect "cured" yourself.
Most medical practitioners won't tell you this, because their interest is to have you coming back to them as often as possible to sell you more drugs to suppress the symptoms.
So, in concluding this article on living a healthy lifestyle, let me summarize:
The best way to get rid of any and all illness and disease that you may be suffering from, and prevent them from recurring. Also to slow down or potentially reverse the aging process is to do the following:
  1. Get rid of all the toxins that have built up in your system.
  2. Stop, or at least reduce the toxins entering your body. It is almost impossible to totally prevent toxins from entering our bodies, but we can drastically reduce the amount.
  3. We must ensure our elimination systems are clean and not sluggish. That will make the toxins we put in and those develop in our body naturally are getting out freely and quickly.
  4. We are to make sure we are getting adequate amounts of nutrition in the various forms such as vitamins, minerals, enzymes, co-factors, and life-sustaining "energy".
  5. Make an effort to reduce or neutralize the electromagnetic energy attacking our body's energy fields and cells.
  6. Do everything to reduce stress
  7. Understand that our mind, and thoughts and words can create a healthy alkaline body pH, and actually change the way out body genetically defective DNA structures into normal healthy DNA structures.
Remember, living good healthy is our responsibility.
The choices we make every day determine the quality of our health.
It is Adrian T Brown here your health enthusiast with a profound question for you: Why People Sick?. You may or may not be responsible for your present health status.
One thing is for sure, you can do something about it. What you think, say and do, believe it or not is creating or destroying your health.
Starting today, right here, right now, can be the beginning of a disease-free, pain-free life. Weight Loss Friendly Foods is where you should start, take action...
